We're led to believe at a young age that such frivolous things have meaning and give us worth;like popularity, networking, money. Why do we feed into this? It turns us into pompous robots. Why can't things that are genuine be important, like vulnerability, and compassion, and love? Relationships are everything, don't people get that? How can we have healthy ones if we think were better than someone else for getting the better paying job, or going to the more prestigious school? What about being the person that tries to understand and help people unconditionally? Why does that not matter as much? I wish people would remember that they were humans, and that the people around them are too. I wish everyone would remember that we all feel uncertainty, worthlessness, and rejection. I wish it wasn't so hard for us to see what should be important. I mostly wish that I didn't feel like I was falling behind, because I care more about being authentic than trying to acquire something to have over people. I wish I wasn't feeding into this too.

Our society as a whole encourages this type of thinking: me,me,me. The only way to break from this is to follow what you feel in your heart. Help someone. Give someone encouragement. Smile at a stranger. Stop and see the beauty in nature. Every single act,no matter how seemingly insignificant, matters. Change happens one moment at a time.
ReplyDeleteThank You! :) I am so glad someone else sees things the way I do! I really needed this after thinking about how people I thought were my friends have treated me over the years, and even how I've been treated by some people this week!
