Conscience.

This is what runs my life. I don't know if the normal young adult even listens to their conscience, but I do. Your conscience is something that is always there for you. In every decision, it is giving you that push on whether you should be doing this or not. Most of the time, people choose to forget about it. There are so many influences that affect our conscience; sometimes it's just so hard to figure out if doing what's right and what is right for ourselves is the same thing.
Everything in this time period is affected by what is "popular", or what we are accustomed to. Once something becomes normal, it doesn't really matter if it's wrong anymore. I'm the strange human being who hates this un-spoken rule. I don't like that just because something happens frequently in our lives, it should be "normal". For me, it's all of the negatives this rule has brought with it. I hate all of the "normal" things teenagers do. I hate that spreading negativity has become normal. The judging, the fighting, the mind games, the nasty comments; it's all so useless and unneeded.
It seems like self-reflection doesn't exist anymore. No one likes being wrong. No one likes admitting they made a mistake. I don't know how people expect to grow up anytime soon if they don't start doing it. I feel like teenagers are walking around not thinking about guilt or wrong choices, just subconsciously waiting for that one huge thing to make them realize they need to change things for themselves. But what if that event never happens? Do people live their lives like this? How can anyone get by never truly believing they're wrong?
My conscience may seem like a burden at times, and sometimes more confusing than helpful; but in the end it gets me to make the decisions I need to. Your conscience does help you in the general scheme of your life, if you're willing to listen to it. It may not make every single decision easy; but you'll get what you need when it's all said and done.
